A Simple, Important Truth {Andy Ferguson}

John 8:32

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Simple things are often overlooked or forgotten because they are so simple, but at the same time SUPREMELY important. The God of the universe, the creator of ALL things, desires our fellowship. How fortunate are we?!?! He wants to be in relationship with us. He wants us to draw near to Him and abide in Him while he abides in us.

He wants us to live in communion with Him, Jesus died on the cross to give us that gift. Before we believed in Jesus and were born again by His Spirit we were actually living as enemies of God. We were living in accordance with the ways of the world, but Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross cleared us from our sins and brought us into right-standing with God (peace with Him). When God looks at his believers He doesn't see our past/present/future sins (no matter how awful they were/are/will be). He has forgiven us and instead sees the righteousness and perfect life of Jesus. What an incredible gift! The Bible says that those who are saved are also being regenerated and sanctified (living with increasing holiness and christ-likeness). Those who are saved are promised eternal life!

Some may ask, “but how do I know if I’m saved?” Here is one way to know for sure, if you are seeing fruits of the Spirit in your life and increasing. If you find yourself becoming more and more Christ-like then He is dwelling within you richly.

Philippians 1:6 says, ”I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

What an incredible promise! If you are seeing the good work happening in your life, you are secured because we are SURE (we have an assurance/a promise) that HE will see it to completion. You will be glorified with a new body and an eternal joy-filled life in Heaven.  And hey, if that still isn't enough to give you an unwavering hope, then seek the kingdom of heaven with all your might. Ask God to remove your fleshly/worldly desires. Ask God to transform your mind, soften your heart, cleanse you from your sins. Humbly ask Him to forgive you and to help you with all of your struggles. He desires for you to live in accordance with His will. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful, so get right with God. Produce good fruit and pray with all your might for yourself and for everyone you can think of. There is nothing wrong with living passionately for God and desiring the things He desires. The life that is pleasing to God is NOT a life of religious duties, it is a life of intimacy and relationship with Him.
